Dean Larson, the man behind the picture - Part 2

Who is that distinguished grey haired gentleman on our website, one may ask? Here is a little bit about the man behind the picture.

Dean Larson has lived a full life. To share about Dean one must share about his lovely wife, Paula. Married for 56 years, they have traveled the world together. Dean worked for Texaco for years as Assistant General Manager. Early on in their marriage they were stationed in Central America . While living there they were blessed with two boys who have since grown up and have families of their own. They are the proud grandparents of four exceptional grandchildren! Dean and Paula celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by taking the whole family to one of their favorite places to cruise, Alaska, making wonderful memories for the family to share. Over the years the Larsons have enjoyed seeing the world both through work and cruising.

Dean and Paula treasure their Port Ludlow home and it's stunning view of the channel. He feels like he is on vacation while at home. He and his wife are active members of their local church where Dean serves as an elder on the board. They enjoy working in the yard, playing card games and board games, including their current favorite, Rummy Kubes.

How did they end up in Port Ludlow, you might wonder? It all started as they were looking at a magazine of the Pacific Northwest and wondering where they should retire. Loving the area and the weather that it had to offer, they ended up getting a video that they were sharing with friends when they realized this might just be the place for them. At first they sought out Sequim, but soon realized that Port Ludlow was a better fit. The milder weather and year round greenery really filled the bill. That was 19 years ago and they haven't looked back.

The Ludlow Bay Realty/ Admiralty Property Management is glad to have Dean and all that he brings to our team.

Record Breaking Summer

Congratulations!! We have almost made it through one long and very hot summer! I can honestly say that I am ready for fall! So many beautiful summer days have made for a memorable summer. Looking ahead to the fall means some cooler days and nights!

We all hope you are enjoying the long days and stunning views of Puget Sound, Port Ludlow, and the surrounding area. Of course, now is a great time to enjoy amazing seafood and fresh veggies and fruit from our local farmer's markets.

Just to remind you, our regular office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:00. We look forward to serving you!

Let Freedom Ring!

Another year older and the USA is still looking pretty grand from where we are sitting here on the peninsula! The sun shining on the flag sure makes for a fine summer. The freedom we still enjoy in this country is reason to celebrate. From coast to coast let freedom ring! As you celebrate, we hope that you are able to savor time with friends and family.

Just a few reminders, if you are going out of town and will have friend watching your place, please make sure you leave the office number, 360-437-0800, with them should they need to contact us. A timer for your lights is also always a good idea. Additionally, leaving porch lights on, according to law enforcement, is a good idea.

Wishing you and yours a very enjoyable summer,
Kevin, Dean, Sherri, and Julianne

June Bugs!

As the weather gets warmer, lots of little critters are out and about. If you have pets be sure to watch out for flees and ticks. Keeping them up on their meds will keep them happy and healthy. Be sure to dress appropriately for walks in the community as ticks find us a tasty treat.
There are many natural homemade pest recipes on the internet. Feel free to send us your tried and true ones and I will pass them on.

Mayflowers on the Peninsula

Spring comes quickly here on the peninsula! What a glorious thing to enjoy all the new growth and beautiful blooms in Port Ludlow. It's a great time to get out and enjoy the area and the beauty around us. This time of year has a special magic when the trees seem to go from brown to green almost overnight and the song of the birds is heard in the morning's light. This is the perfect time to enjoy some leisurely walks around the area. Refreshingly cool evenings without the summer pests make for lovely strolls.
This is the perfect time for visits to local haunts from charming Port Gamble to the scenic beauty of La Push. Make a day of it now before school is out and beat the crowds.
Drop us a note and let us know your favorite area day trip. There are so many hidden gems within a few hour's drive.

Spring is in the Air!

Spring is in the air! Flowers are blooming and the landscape is coming alive with the colors of Spring.

A short ferry ride to Coupeville,  and then on to the stunning views from Deception Pass Bridge, and a drive through the the daffodil and tulip fields of La Conner make for a wonderful outing! Just make sure to log on to the official Washington State Ferries site to get a reservation!! It is easy to do and makes travel to and from the peninsula so much more relaxing.

While there can be plenty to do while waiting for the ferry on the Port Townsend side, the pickings are slim at the Coupeville dock. A walk on the beach is a great option as long as the weather cooperates. Coupeville itself also offers many fun restaurants as well as an outstanding ice cream shop, KAPAWs, and an amazing Bakery, the Knead & Feed. So consider a day trip to Whidbey Island and beyond.

Springing forward when it still feels like Winter!

It's hard to believe that Daylight Saving starts on Sunday! Time flies here on the peninsula. All of here at the office are looking forward to the the weather becoming warmer and the days becoming longer.

We are ready to see more signs of spring! Anticipation of seeing new ducklings and maybe a few new otter pups outside swimming in the sound make us all want to start donning sweaters rather than winter coats! Please feel free to email some signs of spring that you observe! We might even include a few in our upcoming Blogs.

With our many windy winter days, now is a good time to start thinking about spring yard clean up. If landscaping isn't part of your lease, the Voice often has landscapers listed in the classifieds.

Keeping Critters at Bay

As the weather warms up a bit it the wildlife can come out looking for goodies. Please do not set out food for the "Woodland Creatures." Any food set out tends to draw pests such as mice, rats, raccoons, deer, and even the occasional bear! Bird feeders can also draw these unwanted pests. Please do not  store dog/cat food outside for the same reasons. If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to call us here at the office, 360-437-0800.

Enjoying the peninsula

Pacific Northwest Living is such a treat. In in our corner of the world we enjoy viewing wildlife on a daily basis. From gentle deer to soaring eagles we are blessed to live in such a great part of the country.

One challenge we do face is the rainy weather. A helpful idea for dealing with all those wet boots and shoes is to purchase a boot tray to place right inside your door. These very inexpensive plastic trays allow your shoes to dry and keep your floors free of water and muck. These can be picked up at a variety of stores, including Walmart. We have found them much more effective than regular doormats. Another great advantage is just how easy they are to clean off.

Please feel free to share with us your tips and tricks for getting the most out of life here on the peninsula. We look forward to including your great ideas in future posts!
